Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge

Bush lodge hotel · South side, at its own Kwa-Maritane gate off the R556 · Legacy Hotels and Resorts

Mid-range Inside the park Safari company

A large bush lodge on the south side of the park with its own gate, Kwa-Maritane, off the R556 between Sun City and the airport. It is one of four Pilanesberg properties run by Legacy Hotels and Resorts, a hotel group; who holds the concession underneath is not on record. Because it sits on the public road network, you can take your own car into the park, unlike the guided-only lodges on the private reserve on the western side. Sun City is about 7 km away. Choose it if you want a hotel-style base with the freedom to self-drive; skip it if you want a small camp feel, since the room count runs to about ninety.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Self-drive the park from the door, a freedom the private-reserve lodges do not give
  • About 7 km from Sun City and its Valley of Waves
  • Half board with a game drive from about $153 a person through an agent
  • Its own gate on the south side
  • Malaria-free, about 2 h 30 from Sandton

Cons

  • A large hotel-style lodge, about 90 rooms
  • Legacy's own rate is per room and the meal basis of its from-rate is not clear
  • A 2020 guide calls the south-east approach gravel only
  • Whether the park fee is in the rate is not stated

What the park charges on top

The rate above buys you a bed. Pilanesberg National Park charges its own entry fee for every day you are inside. Here is what that adds up to.

Park entryR748 per international adult per day at USD 1 = ZAR 16.36.
$46per person, per day
VehicleR168 per car per day, about $10.
$10per vehicle, per day

Three nights means three days inside, so two adults sharing one vehicle pay $306 in park fees before anyone pays for a bed.

Guests at lodges inside the park usually pay the fee through the lodge; several private-reserve lodges include it in their rate.

An agent sells it from R2,502 ($153) per person sharing, half board with one game drive, low season 2026. What the rate covers is not confirmed. We do not know yet whether meals, drinks and activities are included, so read this as the bed only.

Every figure on this page is in US dollars.

Rates checked against our research of 24 September 2026 and converted at R16.36 to the dollar. Where a lodge publishes its own rate we use it with its date. The per-person figures for Ivory Tree, Shepherd's Tree, Kwa Maritane, Bakubung Bush Lodge, Tshukudu, Tsholo, Umoya, Mbazo and Dzombo are a named agent's or reseller's and say so; the guesthouses, The Kingdom and Tlou come from one Booking.com night (14 to 15 October 2026) or LekkeSlaap's list. The price filter and sort use per-person rates only: campsites, rooms, villas and whole lodges show their rate in the text but carry no sortable figure. The park conservation fee comes on top outside the gate: R748 per foreign adult, R168 per South African adult and R168 per car, per day since 1 December 2025, card only, and a new tariff could start on 1 December 2026.

Questions about Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge

Is Kwa Maritane inside Pilanesberg National Park?

Yes. The lodge sits inside the park at its own gate on the south side, reached off the R556 between Sun City and the airport. Because it is on the public road network, guests can self-drive the park, which the lodges on the private reserve on the western side do not allow.

What does the rate at Kwa Maritane include?

Legacy's own site starts at R6,222 a room per night, half board. An agent sells half board with one game drive from R2,502 a person sharing in the 2026 low season. Neither says whether the daily conservation fee or VAT is included, so confirm both when you book.

Is Kwa Maritane good for families?

It is malaria-free and close to Sun City's Valley of Waves, which suits children. We found no published child policy in our sources, so ask Legacy about ages on game drives and family rooms before you book.
