Lodges & camps in Pilanesberg National Park

51 places to stay

Fifty-one places to stay in and around Pilanesberg, from a R322 (about $20) campsite at the two state-run resorts to whole-lodge rentals at R25,000 a night on the private reserve on the western side, plus Sun City's hotels and two dozen locally owned guesthouses in Mogwase, Saulspoort and Ledig. The line under each name says whether it is inside the park, outside the gate, or not settled.

Where it is

Nineteen places are inside the fence. Thirteen sit on the private reserve on the western side, which is fenced in with the park; its lodges are guided only, so guests do not self-drive the park. Bakubung Bush Lodge and Bakubung Villas stand at Bakubung gate, and our sources do not say on which side of the fence, so they show boundary unconfirmed. Sun City and Pilanesberg International Airport are outside the park, whatever some portals say.

Shepherd's Tree Game Lodge

Top-end · Inside the park · Safari company

An aha Hotels and Lodges property on a North West Parks concession, in an exclusive-use zone in the south-western part of the main park with a private entrance off the R565. One agent portal places it on the private reserve on the western side; aha, the operator, says it is in the park itself, and we follow the operator. The rate covers all meals and two guided drives a day: R6,750 a person sharing in the 2026 winter season through an agent. The old shepherdstree.co.za address now redirects to aha. Choose it for a guided stay in a part of the park day visitors do not reach; skip it if you need a published rate from the lodge itself.

Lush Private Lodge

Top-end · Inside the park · Owner-run

An eight-suite lodge on the private reserve on the western side, owned and run by the Lupini family. Its own site publishes the 2026 rate: R7,350 a person sharing with all meals, selected drinks and two game drives a day, or R117,600 a night for exclusive use by up to 16 guests. As on the rest of the reserve, game viewing is guided only, on the lodge's own vehicles. Agent portals still carry 2021 prices with a R100 reserve entry fee, which no longer apply. Choose it for a family-run lodge with drinks included, or for a group booking the whole place; skip it if you want to self-drive.

Ivory Tree Game Lodge

Top-end · Inside the park · Safari company

A 70-room game lodge in the north-east of the park, 3.1 km from Saulspoort and close to Bakgatla gate. Its website footer says it is managed by aha Hotels and Lodges, the group that also runs Shepherd's Tree; the owner behind the management contract is not on record. The lodge prints no rates, so the figures here come from agents: R5,110 a person sharing, full board with two activities a day, in the 2026 winter season. It sits on the public road network, so you can also take your own car out. Choose it for a full-board stay with guided drives on the northern side; skip it if you want an intimate camp.

Dzombo Lodge

Top-end · Inside the park · Ownership unconfirmed

A five-room lodge on the private reserve on the western side, sold through the Mbazo Safari Collection website alongside Mbazo Safari Lodge. Who owns the group is not confirmed. The only rate is an agent's: R9,120 a person sharing with all meals and game drives, the highest per-person figure among the Pilanesberg lodges in our sources. Like its neighbours on the reserve, it is guided only. Choose it if you want one of the smallest lodges in the park and the price suits; skip it if you are comparing on value, since Tambuti and Umoya include similar drives for less.

Tambuti Lodge

Top-end · Inside the park · Ownership unconfirmed

Five chalets on the private reserve on the western side of the park, fenced in with the national park so the animals move freely between them. The lodge's own site publishes the rate: R4,700 a person sharing for Southern African residents in 2026, with all meals, all drinks and two guided safaris a day, and an agent quotes R5,695 for international guests. It takes guests aged 16 and up. Like every lodge on that reserve it is guided only: you leave your car at the lodge. Who owns it is not on record. Choose it for a small, adults-only stay with drinks included; skip it if you want to drive yourself.

Mbazo Safari Lodge

Top-end · Inside the park · Ownership unconfirmed

Five units, three executive suites and two family chalets, on the private reserve on the western side, sold under the Mbazo Safari Collection name together with Dzombo Lodge. The record leans towards owner-run but does not confirm who owns it. Rates are muddled: the lodge's own page shows R5,995 a person sharing but refers to 2023, while an agent sells 2026 at R8,075 all-inclusive and Booking.com showed R18,000 a room. Game viewing is guided only, two drives a day. Choose it if you are a family and want a chalet of your own on a small lodge; skip it until the lodge confirms a current rate in writing.

Umoya Safari Lodge

Top-end · Inside the park · Ownership unconfirmed

A five-room lodge on the private reserve on the western side of the park, the area fenced in with Pilanesberg where the lodges run guided drives only. Our only rate is an agent's: R5,950 a person sharing with all meals and two activities a day, or R5,650 for South African residents. Who owns and operates the lodge is not on record, and its own site, umoyasafarilodge.com, gave no rate when we checked in September 2026. Choose it for a very small guided lodge in the mid-to-upper price band of the reserve; skip it if you want a published rate and a named owner before you pay.

Tshukudu Bush Lodge

Top-end · Inside the park · Safari company

Legacy Hotels and Resorts' small lodge in Pilanesberg: ten chalets on a concession of their own inside the park, reached through Bakubung gate. Legacy, a hotel group, also runs Bakubung Bush Lodge, Bakubung Villas and Kwa Maritane; who holds the Tshukudu concession itself is not on record. The rate is fully inclusive with guided drives: R7,795 a person sharing through an agent, or R17,630 a room on Legacy's own site for the Tshwene Deluxe. It is the most expensive per-person rate inside the main park in our sources. Choose it for a small lodge with everything included; skip it if you would rather spend that money across more nights.

Tsholo Safari Lodge

Top-end · Inside the park · Safari company

A new lodge of 14 suites and a two-bedroom villa on the private reserve on the western side, where every lodge is guided only. Its website footer names Nightjar as manager. The older Thutlwa Safari Lodge address now redirects to Tsholo, and Tsholo sells Kubu Suites and a Kubu House, which suggests it took over the former Kubu Metsi; the record calls both links likely rather than certain. An agent sells the Luxury Suite at R6,370 a person sharing with two game drives from 15 September 2026. Choose it for a new build with a villa for a family or group; skip it if you want the freedom of your own car in the park.

Kwa Maritane Bush Lodge

Mid-range · Inside the park · Safari company

A large bush lodge on the south side of the park with its own gate, Kwa-Maritane, off the R556 between Sun City and the airport. It is one of four Pilanesberg properties run by Legacy Hotels and Resorts, a hotel group; who holds the concession underneath is not on record. Because it sits on the public road network, you can take your own car into the park, unlike the guided-only lodges on the private reserve on the western side. Sun City is about 7 km away. Choose it if you want a hotel-style base with the freedom to self-drive; skip it if you want a small camp feel, since the room count runs to about ninety.

Bakubung Bush Lodge

Mid-range · Boundary unconfirmed · Safari company

Legacy Hotels and Resorts' lodge at Bakubung gate in the south-west, on the Ledig side and a short drive west of Sun City. Legacy, a hotel group, also runs Bakubung Villas next door, Kwa Maritane and Tshukudu. Our sources put it at the gate without saying whether it sits inside or outside the fence, so the location badge reads unconfirmed. What is clear is that its guests are on the public roads and can self-drive Kubu Drive into the park. The cheapest per-person rate we have is an agent's R2,682 with dinner, breakfast and one drive. A small privately owned lodge on the northern slopes of the private reserve on the western side: four suites that can be taken together as one self-catering lodge for up to eight, plus an executive suite, ten guests in all. You cook, and two guided game drives a day are included; as everywhere on the reserve, there is no self-driving into the park. Prices are the most confused in our list. The lodge's own undated page gives R3,250 a night for the Executive Suite for two and R10,500 for the lodge, while an agent quotes R6,650 and R17,750 for the coming season. Choose it for a group that wants its own kitchen; skip it until you hold a written rate.

Ntamba Safari Lodge

Mid-range · Inside the park · Owner-run

A family-owned lodge on the private reserve on the western side, rented as a whole: five suites for ten adults and five children. It is self-catering with two game drives a day, and it is one of the few places in our sources that states the park conservation fee is in the price. The lodge's own site says plainly that no self-driving is allowed. It shares its contact with Nkala Safari Lodge, a larger lodge on the same reserve. At R19,000 a night midweek, a full house of ten adults pays R1,900 each. Choose it for a multi-family group; skip it for a couple.

Its own site gives R25,000 a night midweek and R29,500 at weekends, about R1,560 a person midweek for a full house. Game viewing is guided only. Older agent pages still show R15,000 and R19,500. As on the rest of the reserve, there is no self-driving into the park. Manyane Resort

Budget · Inside the park · Park-run

The eastern rest camp just inside Manyane gate, run by Golden Leopard Resorts, a state-owned company that reports to the North West Parks and Tourism Board. A fire in February 2024 destroyed the restaurant, reception and conference centre; the operator's notice of 17 September 2024 said only camping and the 2-sleeper chalets were running. A parliamentary oversight report in October 2025 called the rebuild nearly complete, and agent sites now sell it as fully open, but no 2026 confirmation exists. Good to know about staying here

Nineteen places are inside the park: Manyane and Bakgatla, the two state-run resorts, and seventeen private lodges, thirteen of them on the private reserve on the western side. At the bottom a campsite costs from R322 (about $20) a night for up to six people; at the top Dzombo Lodge costs R9,120 ($557) a person sharing through an agent and Nkala R25,000 ($1,528) a night for the whole lodge, all read on 24 September 2026. What most "in the park" claims leave out: the lodges on the private reserve are inside the fence but guided only, so you cannot self-drive the park from them.

Pilanesberg is a community-owned landscape managed by the province. Its land came partly from the Bakgatla and the Bakubung, the Welgeval community won a restitution claim and leased its land back to the park, and Tourism Update names the park's four Community Property Associations as possible co-investors. None of the lodges in our sources is recorded as community-owned. The locally owned layer is the two dozen guesthouses and houses in Mogwase, Saulspoort and Ledig that neither of the big agent portals lists: a couple there pays R650 to R1,300 a night, less than one foreign adult's gate fee for two days.

Every price on this page is in US dollars.

Rates checked against our research of 24 September 2026 and converted at R16.36 to the dollar. Where a lodge publishes its own rate we use it with its date. The per-person figures for Ivory Tree, Shepherd's Tree, Kwa Maritane, Bakubung Bush Lodge, Tshukudu, Tsholo, Umoya, Mbazo and Dzombo are a named agent's or reseller's and say so; the guesthouses, The Kingdom and Tlou come from one Booking.com night (14 to 15 October 2026) or LekkeSlaap's list. The price filter and sort use per-person rates only: campsites, rooms, villas and whole lodges show their rate in the text but carry no sortable figure. The park conservation fee comes on top outside the gate: R748 per foreign adult, R168 per South African adult and R168 per car, per day since 1 December 2025, card only, and a new tariff could start on 1 December 2026.

Facilities come only from what our research recorded from each operator's site, Booking.com or the agent portals in September 2026. No property's facilities page was read in full, so the facilities filter is mostly empty: a blank means unchecked, not missing.
